OVERVIEW

These bolts are meant for use with many ice racing organizations in their "spec stud” class. Specs:

  • M8x1.25 bolts (metric equivalent to 5/16”)

  • 1.25” long

  • Class 10.9 (metric equivalent to grade 8)

  • Each bolt comes with a custom nylon insert locknut with a wide flange for the outside of the tire.

  • No washers required

TORQUE SPECS
  • Hold the bolt, torque the nut

  • Do not exceed 20 Nm

  • Do not use an impact gun or you will 100% strip the head of the nut

HOW TO MAKE A STUDDED TIRE
  • Figure out how many studs you’re allowed according to your organization’s rules

  • Pick out a tire with well-defined tread blocks; it’ll make creating a pattern easier

  • Drill 3/16” holes from outside in for each stud

  • Put a dab of urethane windshield adhesive on the end of a stud and use a drill/impact to push it through

  • Put a small bead of adhesive all around the outside of the bolt where it comes out of the tire

  • Add washer and tighten nut. The washer should squish the tread pretty well on the outside; it should feel pretty darn tight

TIRE SELECTION

There are a lot of factors to consider when choosing a tire for ice racing. We believe the ideal tire has a stiff sidewall, has minimal tread to not eat up bolt length, and isn’t dry rotting. Something less than 5 years old is ideal. Stay away from racing slicks and non-DOT tires, as they will crack at cold temperatures. Ask us how we know…
