Proper Care of your Spherical Bearings
Lubrication - None
We use only the highest quality motorsport-grade Aurora PTFE-lined spherical bearings. The bearing race is specially formulated with a PTFE-embedded compound that forms a lubricating layer between the ball and race. That means these bearings do not use grease. Grease actually shortens the life!
Protection from the Elements
The best thing you can do to prolong bearing life is to keep them out of the elements. Dirt, dust, water, and salt all reduce bearing life substantially. Unlike others, our bearings come with fully sealed dust boots. Use them!! Make sure the bearing is clean and dry before installation. Make sure the included safety wire is properly twisted using the safety wire pliers. It should be tight enough that you canβt pull the boot off using a few pounds of force, but not so tight that itβs damaging the boot. Check your dust boots often; a torn boot can trap moisture and debris, leading to quick bearing failure.
Installation Precautions
Never press your cup in using the bearing surfaces. The press force can cause deformation of the ball or race and lead to early bearing failure.
Make sure the surfaces are clean and dry before sliding the bearing into the cup or spacers into the bearing. These slip fits have very tight tolerances to ensure a snug fit; debris can cause binding and scoring of the surfaces. Always use a light touch. You should never have to force them in.
